Obituary
Willie Pearl Goudy Cannon was the third of eleven children born to Mary and Clyde Goudy Sr. in Alden, Alabama on January 27, 1940.
She was united in marriage to the late Tom Arthur Cannon, Jr. and to this union three childern were born: Roderick Goudy, Tommy Leonardo, and Shunna Marie. The family resided in Birmingham.
In 1958, she graduated from Westfield High School and, thereafter, earned her B.S. degree in Mathematics from Alabama A&M University. As a student in college, she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She pursued graduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Willie Pearl served as an educator for over 30 years. She taught at Hooper City, Gilmore-Bell, Westfield High, Bottenfield Junior High, and Holy Family High School. She had a giving heart to everyone she met and especially to the students entrusted to her. As a retiree, she was an avid gardener and loved to shop at thrift and consignment stores.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Roderick), sister (Arleatha) and brother (Reuben).
She is survived by: two of her three children, Tommy (Alison) and Shunna, both of Birmingham; her four sisters, Rosalyn Connor, Dorothy Ruth Hawthorne, Patricia Sigers, and Mary Shepherd; her four brothers, Clyde, Jr., William, Frank, and Alphonso (Tyrone); three grandchildren, Niesha Coleman, Rodricka Coleman, and Tyler Jordan Cannon; two great grandchildern Ni'Shanti and Noriyah.
Willie Pearl will be dearly missed by her family and friends, yet we are all assured that she is indeed at rest.
