Sister Willie Mae Allen, Affectionately known to many as Grandma Mae, was born to the late James and Katie Mae Phillps in Bessemer Al. She was the second born of ten of whom she helped raise. Sister Allen was a mother of seven, grandmother of 34, and countless great grands.
Sister Allen was educated in the Bessemer City School System and a graduate of Abrams High School. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking, and caring for others. 2200 Clarendon Ave, was definitely the place to be. Although she had many jobs her biggest love was taking care of children which led her to being a childcare worker at Milk & Honey Daycare until her health began to fail her. She was also the world's BEST Sunday school teacher and youth director at Roosevelt City COC.
Sister Allen found Christ at an early age; she was baptized at Shady Grove Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to 24th Street Church Of Christ; Finally she found the right church home for her and her family she became a member of the Roosevelt City Church Of Christ where she remained faithful until her health failed her.
On Sunday February 12th 2023 at 10:56 p.m. she transitioned peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, a very special companion Mr Walter Lee “Goat” Davis, one grandson Brandon Nevels, three brothers Nathanel Phillips, Eddie Phillips, and Otis Phillips, and one sister Alice Talley.
Memories of her will forever be deeply cherished by three loving, caring and devoted daughters Denise (Errol) Rose, Terrace Allen, and Lasonja Phillips. Four loving and caring sons Berliegh (Clara) Phillips, Dennis Allen, Victor Allen, & Marvin (Starlina) Allen Sr. whose hearts will forever hold her near. Three sisters Christine Grant, Marietta Hudson, and Camillia Phillips. Two brothers James (Jimmie) Phillips And Alfred (Belinda) Phillips. One uncle Jim Phillips. Thirty-four grandchildren whom she had a strong hand in raising Marrio (Terri), Aquilla, Chrisetta, Tydarius, Alfred, Ebony, Erica, Dominique, Berliegh jr, Besha (Kevin), Victor Jr, Quinton, Shondrika, Tiffany, Jerramie, Ashley, Jakayley, Cherrelle (Hosea), Ashley(Jordan Sr.), Brandin, Monterries (Alexis), Jeremy, Jameria, Marvin Jr, Alexis, Jaylin, Morgan, Christina, Keyonna, Demetius, Donterries, Kyrin, and Tamala. A host of Great grands, nieces, nephews, Relatives, & Friends.
I have fought the good fight, I have Finished My course, I have kept the faith . Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous jude, shall give me at the day : and not to me only but unto all them also that love his appearing
