Vilma Jean Pippen Turner was born to the parents of James Pippen and Melna Rox Pippen on June 30, 1951 in Bessemer, Alabama.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Ward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Pastor S.D. Parker. She later joined the New Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor William H. Walker, Sr. there she remained a member until death.
Vilma was her parents’ first child, and being the first born, she became a young helper that assisted in caring for her younger siblings. These loving qualities carried on into adulthood and motherhood.
Vilma was educated in the Jefferson County School System, and was a proud “Wenonah Dragon ’’class of 1969. Vilma started her career at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Hospital as a phlebotomist. As an employee she completed the Dental Hygienist Program, and she worked under the Division of Clinical Pathology, and retired after forty years. Throughout her life she loved and adored her family. For her, nothing was as special as the role of mother and grandmother.
Vilma was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Eric Pippens Jr.; two brothers James Pippen Jr. and Ronald Fowler Sr.
On Sunday, February 6, 2022, Vilma departed this life for glory surrounded by family at University Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: loving daughters, Alisha Turner, Angela Pippens, granddaughter Ashley Pippens, grandson Quinn Pippens; six brothers Edward Rox , Deputy Chief Anthony Pippen (Patricia), Gerald Pippen (Michelle), Col(Ret)Andre R. Pippen(Caroline) Kaiserslauten, Germany, Floyd Pippen(Yolanda), and Marquel (Tiffany);four sisters Juanita Robertson(Theodore), Twanda Pippen, Angela Brand(Barry), and Jacqueline Jackson; one uncle Eddie Lee (Melvina)Rox of Newbern, Alabama; fourteen nieces Dietrich, Christie (Michael), Jannine, Rontrice, Shantrice, Melanie, Jerrin, Mariah, Taylor, Rachel, Rachelle, Tekeisha, Jamiah, and Kendyl; seven nephews Ronnie Jr., Anthony Jr. Jeremiah, Christopher, Andrew, David, and Devon; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
