The Life of Vezelia A. Baldwin In accordance to the divine will of God, Vezelia began life on January 19, 1949 to the late Fred and Annie Smith of Bessemer, Alabama. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with the Old Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Jeff Fisher Bryant, where she became a member of the No. 2 Choir. She also served on the Senior Usher Board and Youth Director. Vezelia was educated in the Birmingham School System, where she graduated from Wenonah High School Class of 1968. Upon graduating from high school, Vezelia was employed by UAB Hospital until she retired in 2002. Vezelia met the love of her life in 1968, Mr. Willie J. Baldwin. They were married in October 1976 and to this union two beautiful children were born, Derrick and Kimberly. Vezelia would like for you to know that her work here is done. On Tuesday, May 17, 2016 she was called home from labor to reward. When the angel came to take her to her Maker, her hand was placed in the Lord’s hand and he said, “Well done good and faithful servant”. Her new home includes a reunion with family and friends. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will sing with the angels; “praising her Savior all the day long”. She will be truly missed but her memories will be cherished by: a loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Willie J. Baldwin; children, Derrick (Yolanda) Baldwin and Kimberly Yvette Baldwin; grandchildren, Derrick Baldwin, Jr. and Jahlia Nicole Baldwin; stepson, James (Nannette) Baldwin; step grandchildren, James and Jasmine Baldwin; sisters, Gwendolyn Starks, Jacqueline Morris and Linda (Cecil) Kimble; brothers, Fredrick Smith and Michael (Yvonne) Smith; sisters-in-law, Area (Nathaniel) Hammonds, Madelyn Baldwin and Cynthia (Donald) Hudson; brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Phyliss) Baldwin and Payton Baldwin, Sr.; aunt, Lula Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family, neighbors and friends
