Mrs. Valarie Porter Andrews was born to James Gurley Sr. and Louise Gurley in Birmingham, Alabama on April 10, 1955. She confessed Christ at an early age and served God faithfully until her demise. She was raised attending Birmingham Public Schools and was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. She was also a member of Destiny Worship Center where Carlos Odom is the presiding pastor. Valarie worked at Fair Haven Retirement Home, Fairview Nursing Home, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a devoted wife to Robert L. Andrews for eleven years, loving mother to Dwight and Aaron, grandmother, sister, cousin and niece who had a heart for her family. She was preceded in death by her father, James Gurley, Sr., mother Louise Gurley; sisters, Mattie Joyce (Gregory) McClain of Cleveland, Ohio and Lena Gurley of Birmingham, Alabama; brothers, Stanley Earl Gurley and James Melvin (Carol Jean) Gurley of Birmingham, Alabama. Valarie departed on January 19, 2015 at St. Vincent's hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband, Robert L. Andrews; sons, Dwight (Sherrita), Aaron (Destiny), Darryl (Tina), and Danny of Birmingham, Alabama; daughter, Darlene (Claude) grandchildren: Joshual, Jeremiah, Julius, Jakyan, Aaryonia, Aaliyah, and Aaron of Birmingham, Alabama; siblings Linda (Rev. Samuel) Banks, Wanda (Kirby) Carlisle, Alfonzia (Janice) Gurley, Toney Gurley; Uncles, Aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends Marcoos Tyrell and Judith Glenn and a host of dear friends.
