Spurgeion Boddie Jr., 82, of Brent, Alabama, passed away, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the V.A. Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Spurgeion was born August 16, 1930 in Brent, Alabama to Spurgeion and Susie (Wilson) Boddie Sr. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1948. On July 20, 1951, he married Elma L. Lewis, in St. Louis, MO. From this union five children were born. Spurgeion was employed at Bethlehem Steel and was one of the First Black Foreman in Buffalo, New York. He enjoyed his working years. In 1985, he retired and relocated to his home town of Brent, Alabama. Being a working man he worked in his retirement for eight years at the Bibb County Jail. Prior to his passing, he was Chairman of the Deacon Board at Pleasant Sabine and past Treasurer. He was one of the key sources in the church restoration after the terrible fire in 2006, and he was on the committee that spear-headed the purchase of the Lilly Star District Building on Route 5. He was a Member of the Center Stone Masonic Lodge #186, and Grand Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Heroines of Jericho in the State of Alabama until 2012, at which time, he became Chairman Emeritus. He was a great teacher, instructor, loving father and BROTHER He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and most of all he loved traveling the world with his beautiful, loving wife... Spurgeion is survived by his wife of sixty-three years; three sons, Reginald Boddie (Anita), Brent, Alabama, Michael Anthony Boddie (Lana), Atlanta, Georgia and Spurgeion Boddie III (Senora), Birmingham, Alabama; two daughters, Barbara Ann Thornton, Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Edward Charles, deceased) and Deborah Joyce Goodman (Terrence), Atlanta, Georgia; niece, Anita Ashby (James); nephew, Ronald Boddie (Felicia), Birmingham, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, Tamica Gaskin (Myron), Terrence Goodman II, Tiana Tylei Gibbs (Charles), April Danielle Boddie, Shannon Senora Huskinson (Earl) Spurgeion, Augustus Boddie IV "Auggie," Stormi Shaquille Boddie, Suzette Roxanne Boddie, Shakira Simone Thornton, Norman Richardson Jr., Edward Lamont Pitts "TJ;" foster granddaughter, Tonshay Garrett; three great-grandchildren, Terrence "Devon" Goodman III, Khloe S. Boddie and Za'Riyah S. Thornton; and a host of nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
