Roxanne (Roxie) Thompson Pierce, was born and raised on an Indian Reservation in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.
Roxie was the tenth child of the late Rev. Joe W. and Mrs. Rosie Lee Thompson. Her early education was in the Okmulgee School System. She studied at Tuskegee Institute and graduated Cum Laude from Miles College with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Roxie was a faithful member of Unity (Porter Chapel) Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a member of the Senior Choir, Director of Christian Education, President of the Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, and Sunday School Teacher during her membership. On the Birmingham District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, she has served as President of the Missionary Society (1975-1977), Financial Secretary of Lay for eight years, and Division Leader. Nationally, she was a Life Member of the National Missionary Society, and served as Correspondent to the World Federation of Methodist Women for 9.5 years. Roxie retired after twenty years of service as a Claims Adjuster with the Social Security Administration.
Roxie was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband of 32 years, Nathaniel Pierce, Sr., brothers, Joe W. Thompson, Jr. Charles Thompson, John B. Thompson, Odis Thompson, Willie Thompson; sisters, Josephine Franklin, Mary Lee Thompson, and Mildred Thompson; brothers-in-love, Reuben (Lena) Pierce, Booker (Juanita) Pierce; sisters-in-love, Ludell (J.C.) Crenshaw and Mary Pierce. There are so many others left to cherish her memory. Roxie is survived by her five children, Brenda (Isaac) Yelder, Athens, GA; Valerie (Ronald) Buford, Birmingham, AL; Rosalyn F. Bassett, Uniontown, AL; Nathel (Jeffery C.) DuBose, Sr., Helena, AL and Nathaniel (Deirdre) Pierce, Jr., Hueytown, AL., brothers-in-love, James Pierce, Montgomery, AL; Fletcher (Sylvia) Pierce, McCormick, SC; sister-in-love, Cebell Miller, Griffin, GA, fifteen grand-children, twenty great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a special niece Gwendolyn Feagin, and a very special caregiver Andra Powell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
