“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4: 78 “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” A Time to be Born : Mr. Robert Cooks was born November 19, 1930 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late Robert Douglas Cooks and Mattie Sims Cooks. A Time to Plant and Rend : He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with Starlight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend P.H. Hall and later Reverend Leon Glover. In 1999, he became a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Larry Norris until his demise. In terms of education, he attended Muscoda Elementary and Junior High School. A Time to Love and Embrace : He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Hubbard on September 2, 1949. They loved and nurtured seven children: Robert Douglas Cooks Jr., Roy, Reginald, Yolanda Gail, Sonya Gaye, Gregory James, and Roderick. A Time to Die : He exchanged life for eternity on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 3:54 P.M. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. He was surrounded by his loved ones. A Time to Mourn : He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cooks and Mattie Sims Cooks; Son, Robert Douglas Cooks Jr; Wife, Mary Hubbard Cooks. His many wonderful memories will be cherished by: two daughters, Yolanda Gail Bonner (Jerome); Sonya Gaye Thomas both of Bessemer, Alabama; four sons, Roy Harrell; Reginald Cooks (Sedetra); Gregory James Cooks (Lillie); and Roderick Cooks all of Bessemer, Alabama; eighteen grandchildren; thirtyone greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Cotton; Linda Turner (Leon); two brothersin law, Joe Nathan Hubbard (Betty); Norman Burton; a very devoted and loving pastor, Reverend Larry Norris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
