Ora Dee Paul was born on July 31, 1944 in Forkland, Alabama and grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. Ora graduated from Wenonah High School in 1962 and attended Miles College for two years. She was a faithful member of Old St. Paul Missionay Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, former youth leader, Missionary Society, Women's Fellowship, Black History program Coordinator and a member of the Mt. Pilgrim No. 2 District Congress of Christian Education. Ora worked as substitute teacher at West Hills Elementary School a Bessemer City School. She also worked in other capacities as needed. She was such a social butterfly until everywhere she went there were people that would stop to talk with her and children who would run up and say "Hey Ms. Paul". Her love for children was definitely reciprocated because she became "Granny" to Jeremiah, Victoria, Nyah, Sydney, and Caleb Coney. She also became "Auntie" to Phyllis Hall, Erica Coney, and Deborah Colston. On Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 7:35 am, God prepared one of His mansions, and said "My child, you have served Me well; you have lived according to My purpose and My will: it is time for you to rest in My bosom. I will heal you and make you whole". She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Annie Mae Cook. Ora's precious memories will be cherished by her two daughters, a special daughter Zelda (Patrick) Stewart, Helena, AL and Keywanee Cook, Bessemer, AL; five grandchildren, Trenton, DeAndre, Tiara, Antonius, and Dominique; one great grandchild, Arianah; five aunts, Ella Paul, Brooklyn, NY, Ruby Paul and Essie Bell Winters, Chicago, IL, Marie (Buck) Hall, Detroit, MI, and Willie Harris, Birmingham, AL; five special friends, Mattie Henderson, Erika Amerson, Ora Dee Holloway, Vincent Burrell, and Geraldine Harris; special families, Lamar, Coney, Stewart, Harris, Hall, Colston, Witherspoon, Robinson, McPhee, and Wallace; a host of cousins, co-workers, church family, school children and infinite amount of friends. She will truly, truly be missed.
