Odell Jones

Obituary “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1
“A Time to Be Born” My name is Odell Boswell Jones. I arrived on July 23, 1934 to the loving parentage of the late Marion, Sr., “Po Pep” and Gladys Marshall Boswell. I am the middle sister of the late Marion Boswell, Jr. and Christine Boswell Freeman.
“A Time to Plant”
The seeds of education! My education began with kindergarten, elementary school and commencing with graduation from Westfield High School. I matriculated from Lawson State Community College, University of Alabama at Birmingham where I received my Bachelors of Science Degree and Alabama State University where I received my Master’s Degree.
“A Time to Serve”
Behold how good and how pleasant is for brethren to dwell together in unity. Psalms 133:1
Being taught this by my parents and knowing God is our overseer, I gave my life to Christ at a very early age. By compassion, belief and baptism I became a member of the First Baptist Church, West End under the pastorate of the late Reverend G.J. Townsend. After his death I was united with Christian Community Methodist Church under Pastor Ed Jones and Elder Porter Jones.
“A Time to Work”
I became a Birmingham City School Educator, Math Teacher, with Gorgas and Spaulding Elementary. I later went on to teach at Green Acres Middle School where I remained until I retired.
“A Time to Cherish”
I was united in Holy Matrimony to the late William B. Jones and to this union one child was born. God, in His infinite wisdom, dispatched an angel on Friday afternoon March 30, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. and called me home. I leave a legacy of love ones that will always remember and cherish: daughter, Diane Lydia Jones; grandchildren, Kiwana Jones, Alven Carlisle, Jr. and Darronda Jones; great grandchildren, Calvin, Kejuan, Kiana, Makayla and Chance Jones; great-great grandchild, Calvin Dequan "Lil Quan", Jr.; sister, Christine Boswell; step great grandchildren, Lydell “June June” Palmore, Jr. and Calvin Chambers; nephews, Tyrone (Vicky), Randy Garfield and Walter (Sharon) Garfield; nieces, Lisa and Linda Boswell, Gail (Jerome) Boswell Gillard, Gloria (Robert) Bowell Lowery and Tonya (John) Garfield Erwin; great nephews, Lamar Boswell, Justin Scott, Marion Gillard and McKinley Garfield; great nieces, Keisha Boswell, Brittany Freeman, Christie, Ashley, Chelsey and Brandy Garfield; and a host of other nieces and nephews. I had some very special friends, Margaret Campbell, Mary Shelton, Queen Roper, Annie Lee Crawford, Ronnie Cook and Alfred Davis (Nasty). My special goddaughters, Bonnie Martin, Lynette Jones, Crisandra Simmons, Varnell Dodson, Anna Willis and Michelle Paigle. My special god grandsons, Michael Chambers and Tim Braggs; go granddaughters, Erica Jackson, Whitney Moore and Shunterca Mooris. Don’t get me wrong I was a very special lady with special cousins and friends and my Christian Community Church Family.
In my distress I cried unto the Lord and He heard me. Psalms 120:1
