On Friday, May 2, 1975 at 6:30 A.M, Nakia Terrell Cook was born to her loving parents Joyce L. Hicks and William Cook, III. Nakia, affectionately known as “Kia”, attended A.G. Gaston and Wenonah High School. Kia was known as the “babysitter” of the family; she was always willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandson, the son she always wanted. They shared a bond like no other. From attending baseball games to school luncheons, she never missed a beat regardless of how she was feeling.
She was preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents, George Hicks, Sr., Elizabeth S. Hicks, William Cook, II and Ada Mae Cook; and her stepmother, Rosalyn “Mema” Garrett. Nakia transitioned from her earthly life to her Heavenly home on Monday, March 2,2020 at 4:19 A.M. at UAB Medical West Hospital.
