Mixon Johnson was called home on Monday, August 15, 2016. He was 86 years old. Mixon was a devoted, loving, caring father and grandfather. He was born in Birmingham, AL on January 7, 1930 and was educated at Parker High School. Mixon's wife, Joyce Johnson, mother Henrietta Washington, sister Clementine Clark and brothers, Thornton Pickett and Esther Pickett preceded him in death. Mixon was a hard worker and held a job at Hackney, Incorporated for over 20 years and also was a dedicated worker at M. Kimberling and Sons. His pleasant personality, charm and outrageous sense of humor allowed him to make life long friends throughout his career. Mixon began presenting signs of dementia almost 8 years before it became evident that he was no longer "himself". This combined with a later diagnosis of lung cancer sent him into battle - a battle in which he bravely fought while maintaining his dignity and giving (as he always did) his family a sense of comfort. Mixon was a strong man in health and even more so in sickness. He is survived by his daughter LaTanya George, son-in-law Randal George, his granddaughter Madison George and the light of his life, his buddy, "his boy" Harlan Keith Pritchett. Mixon and Harlan had a bond that was unbreakable. Mixon, loved Harlan more than can be expressed by a million words. Mixon was a great father and an unbelievably extraordinary granddad. Mixon is also survived by a host, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends whom he held close to his heart, as well as a beloved brother-in-law David Clark. Mixon brought laughter and life to so many and he will be truly be missed and cherished by all who loved him.
