Mattie Mae Bolden Terry was born April 14, 1933, to the late Homer and Mattie Bolden in
Faunsdale, Alabama. She was the baby child of eight siblings.At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mattie moved to Bessemer, Alabama and joined the Greater Fourteenth Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Kenneth Boatwright in 1988. She was an active member and secretary for the Senior Choir, a faithful member of the Nurses' Guild, the Kitchen Manna Ministry and the Women's Sunday School Class until her health began to fail. She was married to the late Walter Terry, Sr. To this union, six children were born. She was affectionately called "Honey" by family and friends. She was preceded in death by two sons, Willie James Bolden and Tommy Gene Terry. Mattie leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Mary Terry of Birmingham, AL, Mattie (Earnest) Coleman of Birmingham, AL and Amanda (Dennis) Speights of Bessemer, AL; one son, Walter (Alfreda) Terry, Jr. of Pleasant Grove, AL; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters-in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives friends and the Greater Fourteenth Street Church Family.
