Sis. Mary Etta Hines was born on July 31, 1923 to the late Mr. Zack Nixon and Onnie Harris Nixon Blakely. She was the eldest of 22 siblings. As a young woman, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Robert Hines who preceded her in death around January, 1993. She was the mother of 3 children: Robert Earl, Samuel V and Clara B Hines her two sons preceded her in death.
Sometime during the 1940's, Sis Hines and her family moved to Bessemer, Alabama. Thereupon, she raised her family and decided to continue her education. With that in mind, she attended Dunbar Night School, and as a result, in 1959 she received her high school diploma. As time passed, she became an outstanding childcare worker for many years.
Sis Hines confessed hope in Christ at an early age. Thereafter, she became a faithful member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor G.W. Sloan. In a like manner, she remained faithful under the leadership of Pastor Harkins until she moved to California to live with her daughter and her family. Her grandson, Kenneth Hines, and her great granddaughter Ciarra Davis also preceded her in death.
With love and honor, she passed away on February 18, 2019.
