Sister Martha Gibbs Vance was born in Cuba, Alabama on March 14, 1924 to the late Cornealous and Callie Gibbs. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Morning Star Baptist Church in Cuba. She later moved to Bessemer and married the late Henry Vance Jr. God blessed them with seven beautiful children. Throughout her life Martha instilled in her children the importance of hard work and determination. She attended Lawson State Community College night school, worked as a health care provider for the Bessemer Carraway Hospital, and later set up and managed an in-home child care facility. She joined St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church under leadership of Rev. W.A. Clark. She was a devoted member of Choir #1, Sunday school Class #3; and served as treasurer of the mission/ BTU for a number of years. She remained a faithful spiritual warrior for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until she died on January 30, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband ; one son Andrea Vance; 2 sisters; Ola Bell Lard and Susie Bell Peoples; 3 brothers: James Cornealous Jr. and John Wesley Gibbs.
