Martha Jane King was born in Hale County on January 12, 1931, to the late Everline and Murphy Birl. Martha was educated in the Hale County School System. She later moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she married John C. King and became a homemaker and loving mother of ten children. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church/Faith Apostolic Church. She has always been a strong believer in her Christian faith and a willing servant in the church where she served as secretary for many years. Martha Jane King made her transition to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2011. She was preceded in death by both parents and 3 siblings (George, Howard and Tom Birl). Precious memories of her life will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family. She leaves to mourn five daughters, Doris (John) Bailey, Carolyn (Curtis) Johnson, M. Janice (Frederick) Reed, Cheryl (Walter ) Malone, Kathy (Marcellars) Mason; five sons, George (Louise) King, John (Angela) King, Carl (Patricia) King, David (Cynthia) King, Anthony (Julia) King; two sisters, Mary Nell Williams and Rosa Lee Burrell; three brothers, Joseph Birl, James Birl and David Birl; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
