On April 19, 1945, a petite but mighty force by the name of
Louise Tubbs was born to the late Inez and Otha Tubbs. She was the
youngest of eleven children. The late Govan and Veola Averheart,
Sr. provided a second home for Louise, where again she was the
youngest of their two children.
Louise Tubbs High departed this earth on October 5, 2023, to be
with her Heavenly father.
Louise Tubbs High graduated from Brighton High School in 1963.
Louise accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member at Old
St. Paul’s Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. Later, she
became a member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where
she served as a greeter. She also graduated from Greater Shiloh
Leadership School and participated in her small group until her illness
no longer allowed her to attend.
She was a substitute teacher at Hard Elementary School. Louise
worked at DHR for 33 years. Her co-workers became family.
On January 15, 1993, she married Elijah High. Their love and
devotion allowed them to be married for 30 years. Elijah High said,
“she was the best”.
At some point in her life, Louise affectionally became known
as “Cookie”. It suited her well, because she was solid in her faith,
devoted to her husband and family. The love she had for her children
and grandchildren surpassed all understanding.
Louise Tubbs High, “Cookie”, leaves to cherish her memory:
a caring and supportive husband, Elijah High; one sister, Ruby
Edwards of New York; two children, Benjamin (Aidrea) Rainey
and Lisa (Hartford) Long; her special son, Ronnie (Jennifer) Tubbs;
five grandchildren, Ryan L. Ragland, Shelby A. Ragland, Ashanti
A. Ragland, Hartford K. Long II and Riley “Louise” Long; two great
grandchildren, JaQuzeon and Alexander Ragland. Due to the
matrimony of Elijah and Louise, she was blessed with four additional
children, who provided love and support during her final days: Larry
(Valerie) High, Sharon Thomas, David (Joy) High and Bruce (Barbara)
High, along with more grandchildren and great grandchildren whom
she adored; a host of nieces and nephews and so many others who
loved her dearly.
