Lorraine Johnson was born on June 4, 1948, to the late Alga G.Gatson and Mattie M. Gatson. She was the second child of six children.
At an early age, Lorraine confessed Christ and joined First Baptist Church of Powderly under the late Reverend Smith Thomas. Later, she was united with the West Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member who served as the Church Clerk for more than 30 years as well as many other capacities. Until her passing, she was united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Q.E. Hammonds.
Her presence was known everywhere she went because she never met a stranger. She loved with her whole heart; to know her was to love her.
Lorraine was educated in the Birmingham City School system. She went on to earn her degrees from Alabama A&M University, where she was a true Bulldog. Upon her graduation, she was employed by Alabama Power Company where she worked for over 30 years. Also, she had a love for children and worked in the Pelham School system and New Hope Baptist Church School. Additionally, she further educated herself at Jefferson State Community College to learn Floral Design and Décor. Lorraine was an exquisite decorator, fantastic cook, baker plus she was a private caregiver.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Arthur J. Johnson. To that union, one son was born, Arthur Jason Johnson. Jason was his mother's heartbeat.
Lorraine will be affectionately remembered by many, but cherishing her loving memories are her son, Jason Johnson; a special granddaughter, Brinceton Hill; Goddaughter, Jabriah Gatson; three sisters, Brenda Harville, Sherrie Gatson and Angela (Nathan) Hicks; two brothers, Alga, Jr. (Marion) Gatson and Bennie (Terrye Lynn) Gatson, all of Birmingham, AL; ten nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces and great nephews; two aunts, Mary Horton and Beulah Evans of Birmingham, AL and a host of great friends; three special young ladies, she called her girls, Barbara Woods, Brenda Harris and Amelia Fielder; a special godson, Peter Mason.
Lorraine's motto was what she truly loved by: "If I can help someone along the way, my living is not in vain."
