Leola C. Jackson was born February 21, 1931 in Sumter County, Epes, Alabama to her parents Frank and Ellen Campbell. Her father, Frank, lovingly called her “Bae”; the endearing name stayed with her throughout her lifetime. Leola “Bae” was one of eleven children that affectionately called Sumter County home. Epes would continue to be a place of familial beginnings for generations of the Campbell family.
Leola confessed her faith and gave her life to Christ at an early age, and would later instill those same Christian and spiritual values in her children. She met and married her loving husband, Tommie F. Jackson (deceased) early in life, and to this union seven wonderful children were born. The family relocated to Birmingham, AL and this became home to the Jackson family where Leola devotedly remained a stay at home mom. As a young woman, Leola embraced and celebrated the home as a space of care, love, and protection. She became a seamstress and enjoyed gardening and cooking. Leola and Tommie enjoyed twenty-seven years of marriage, until Tommie celebrated his homegoing December 28, 1977.
Leola was a member of 25th Avenue Baptist Church in North Birmingham. “Bae’s house” became a site of family gatherings, love, and always a home for her children, siblings, grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and family friends.
Our beloved Leola “Bae” Jackson departed this life to be with her heavenly, loving Father on Saturday, September 14, 2019. She is resting, yet basking in the joy of eternity.
