Laura Olds was born on March 6, 1924 in Dallas County, Alabama to Calvin Olds and Rosie L. Tabb. She attened the Salem Public School System.
She confessed hope in Christ, at Salem Baptist Church in Orville, Alabama, at an early age. She later moved to Bessemer, Alabama and united with the First Baptist Church Ninth Street under the leadership of Reverend Fred Douglas King, where she remained a member until her demise.
Laura met and married James W. Johnson Sr. and four children were born to this union.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sibilings; Calvin Olds, George Washington, Hattie Olds-Moore and Lucille Olds-Gaines.
Being around her you would pick up wisdom through her wise words and way of life and be enlightened by her sharp memory from down through the years. There was never a dull moment in her precense because you would laugh, she was sure to have a joke for everyone.
The Lord saw fit to bring her home to eternal rest on Friday Novemeber 30, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by her family whom she loved dearly.
She will be greatly missed by all lives she touched
in her 94 years here on earth.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories; one daughter, Jeanette Johnson of Bessemer, AL; three sons, James Jr., and Alfonson both of Bessemer, AL, and Spencer (Carolyn) Johnson of Birmingham, AL; 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
