Sister Kathryn Clemons was born in Bessemer, Alabama to the union of V. E. Stephens and Martha Ellison. It was here that she lived, attended grammar school, and was baptized by the late Reverend H. M. Moton at the First Baptist Church. The family moved to Lynch, Kentucky where she completed her high school education and was married. Later, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she furthered her education and married her second husband, Joel Clemons, who preceded her in death. While living in Chicago, Kathryn worked as a quality control clerk at Midas International Corporation until she retired in 1977. She then returned to her native home in Brighton, where she reunited with her childhood church and enjoyed retirement. Here she remained until illness forced her to move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to be cared for by her remaining family. Kathryn and Joel shared two children, Gloria Joyce Carter Roark, who also proceeded her in death and her son, Tyrone Carter. She leaves her son to mourn her, along with her daughter-in-law, Emily Carter, four grandchildren, Nicholas Carter, Anthony Roark, Tracey Carter-Hubbard (Kamal), and Marques Carter; two great-grand children, Anthony Roark ,Jr., Gloria Roark, and a host of other relatives and friends. All will miss her and cherish her memory.
