Reverend Johnny Clyde Humphrey was born July 2, 1940 to the late Dee and Matilda Humphrey of Bessemer, Alabama. He was the sixth child of fourteen children born to the union. He began his education at Robertstown Elementary School. He became a member of Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend E.L. Nevette. In 1994, he was called into the ministry under the leadership of the late Reverend Johnny Ware. He was later baptized in the name of Jesus and received the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Pastor Altha M. Jones. He remained a faithful member until death. He was a man who loved church and he often sang and gave praises to God. He was educated in the Jefferson County School System. In 1968, he graduated from Brighton High School. He attended college and earned a Bachelor of Arts and two Bachelor of Science degrees from Miles College. He later earned a Master of Science degree (Cum Laude) from Alabama State University. He departed his earthly life on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 4:20am at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He leaves to cherish his memories; three brothers, Timothy Humphrey, Bobby Humphrey, Sr., and Zachariah Humphrey, all of Bessemer, AL; seven sisters, Pastor Savannah Brock (Monticello, KY), Pastor Altha M. Jones, Zenoria (Richard) Branch, Doris Faye Yearwood, and Annette Thomas, all of Bessemer, AL, Mary Brown (Bronx, NY), Charlie Ruth Humphrey (Long Island, NY) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
