John Moten

Brother John Henry Moten was born July 31, 1948 to the late Helen and Sherman Moten Jr. The oldest of six children. He attended Robertsown Elementary and he later graduated from Brighton High school class of 1967. Upon graduating he joined the United States Army and later attended Bessemer State Technical College where he continued his education in Welding, Electricity, and Air Condition and Refrigeration. He was employed at Pullman Standard as a welding inspector, an Electrician in Mulga Coal Mine, Prior to becoming self employed as an air condition and refrigerator repair man, and later Koppers Coke Plant. He confessed Christ and joined the New Bethlehem Baptist Church under the pasturage of Pastor William H. Walker where he remained until his health failed. He was a former member of the Male Choir and the Security team. He answered the Lord's call after a lengthy illness on Thursday April 19 2012 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard Sherman III, Thomas Moten and Sherman Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife: Barbara Solomon Moten, three daughters; janika moten, Latonya (Reginald) Johnson and Jatanya Solomon, three sons; Antonio (Lakeshia) Moten, Jarvis (Jocelyn) Collier and Andre' Solomon.
