Born Jessie Mae Rodgers in York, Alabama on June 11, 1923. She was born to Lillie Pear Rodgers and William Easley. As a child, Jessie Mae attended Sumter County Schools. She always said "she couldn't wait to graduate high school so she could move to the city." After graduating high school, the next day she moved to Bessemer, Alabama with her uncle and aunt. She would later meet and marry her first husband, Robert Lee and to this union they shared a daughter. In 1980 she married the "late" William Jones. Jessie Mae confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Burstall. She later moved her membership to Fifth Avenue Bethel Baptist. After years of service and serving at Fifth Avenue Bethel she decided to serve and worship God with her grandchildren and joined Porter Chapel C.M.E. Church. Praising the Lord in song, thought, word and deed. She sang in the choir and served as a stewardess. On March 10, 2012 the curtain of life featuring Mrs. Jessie Mae Jones was drawn. This gracious loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and child of God drifted off to sleep and woke in the presence of her Savior. She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Barbara L. Bell (Larry) of Bessemer, Alabama; five grandchildren, Morris )Melanie), Tracy (Missy), Patrice (Tim), Bill (Shelia), Lyshia (Dwight); one brother, LaVonn Hardrick (Sandra); one sister-in-law, Rebecca Lotson, fourteen great-grandchildren and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
