James M. Poole Sr. was born to Charlie and Mary Lee Poole on January 2, 1942 in Bessemer, Alabama (Mobile Jct.). He confessed hope in Christ at a very early age and joined Ward Chapel AME. He was educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools; attending Raimund, Muscoda, and Wenonah High Schools. "Poole" as he was affectionately called, was an avid hunter. He married Hattie B. Thomas May 3, 1961. To this union six children were born. Poole was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Carlos Poole, grandson, DaVonte Poole, brothers; Cleophus and Gabe Church, Robert Lee and Joe Nathan Scott and one sister, Brenda Williams. On February 20, 2017 the Lord called him to his eternal home. Left to cherish his memories and legacy are his children, Patricia (Roderick) Day, LaVonia (Charlie) Washington, Felicia (Tony) Baylor, and Cassandra (Walter) Smart; son, James Poole Jr. all of Bessemer, Alabama; grandchildren, Roderick (Alex) Day Jr., Charity (Walter) O'Neal, Latoyia Day, Alisha Poole, Deidra Hill, Walter Smart Jr., Kimberly Poole, Martez Poole, CaNeshia Smart, Alexicia Poole, and Alexis Washington all of Bessemer, Alabama; great grandchildren, Sharon O'Neal, Walter O'Neal Jr., and Alonte Hill; stepmother, Othela Poole, of Southfield, Michigan; sisters, Gail Poole Johnson of Detroit, Michigan, and Glenda Poole Jones of Southfield, Michigan; brothers, David Church and Tommy Scott of Bessemer, Alabama, Felix and Petey Poole of Detroit, Michigan; four sisters-in-law, Christine Duff of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Hattie and Fannie Thomas of Bessemer, Alabama, and Arlene Veronica Scott; brother-in-law, Clifford (Irene) Thomas of Hempsted, New York; aunts, Ophelia Ernest and Mae Hattie Colvin of Montgomery, Alabama; dedicated friends, Sharon Taylor, Tammy Carter, Iris Bowers, Joe Massey, Curtis Wilson, Jemelle Sparks, Chris Moultrie, and Zandra Eddie; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, Mobile Jct.
