Jacquelyn Denise Spence was born August 12, 1961 in Bessemer, Alabama to Willie Spence, Jr. and Stella Price Spence. She was loved abundantly by her grandparents, Willie Spence, Sr. and Alberta Spence.
She confessed hope in Christ at a young age and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the renown, Reverend R. L. Starkey.
Jacquelyn attended Brighton Elementary School as a child and was a proud graduate of Brighton High School, Class of 1979. She continued her education by attending RETS Electronic School in 1982 and graduating from Booker T. Washington Business School in 1984.
Always industrious and not afraid of hard work, Jackie held several jobs: Walmart, Receiving Clerk for six years, Baptist Health System, Scheduling Clerk for eleven years and Healthsouth / UAB Highlands Patient Registration for seventeen years.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, her passion was reading. She was an avid reader who favored books through Kindle. She was a quiet person but never afraid to express her feelings through words or actions. As a result of her generous spirit and dynamic personality she was loved and respected by many. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
“The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, Blessed be the name of the Lord.” After a gradual decline in health, Jackie was taken from this world for a new home with Jesus. Surrounded by many loving cousins and other family members, she quietly departed this life on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center Princeton, Birmingham, Alabama.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives: children, Jameca Collins, Hueytown, AL and Laneka Spence, Brighton, AL; grandchildren, Jakobi Long, Jakori Rayford, Jackya Collins and Michael Carlton, III; parents, Stella (Johnny, Sr.) Long, Hueytown, AL and Willie (Monica) Spence, Jr.; grandmother, Alberta Spence Collins, Brighton, AL; sister, Angelique Owens; five siblings; nieces, Jacquenese Owens and Jaid Spears; six step siblings; special cousin / brother, Louis Pinkard (Charlie Brown); special friend, Leonardo Dancy; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
