Henry Moore

Henry Lawrence Moore was born in Marion, AL on September 8, 1929 to the late Florence Underwood and the late Bud Russell. He entered into eternal rest on September 10, 2011. He later moved to Bessemer, AL. He confessed Christ at an early age at Second Ave Beulah Baptist Church where he served the remainder of his life until his failing health. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Deacon Board, member of the Mass Choir and the Male Chorus. He graduated from Dunbar High School class of 1948. He served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He retired from Pullman Standard after twenty-five years of service. He also worked at Northside Dry Cleaners and Old Reliable Cab Company for many years. He repaired televisions and was well know for baking cakes. He served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #132 and he volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He engaged in holy matrimony to Laura Crawford on October 8, 1952 and seven sons were born of this union. Three sons are preceding him in death: Lawrence, Fredrick and Eric. He is survived by his wife Laura and four sons: Ronnie (Wanda), Larry (Regina), Donnie (Edna) and Alfred (Gloria); three sisters Katherine Murkerson, Mary Rose Akers and Louise Sledge: one brother Willie Underwood; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two special cousins Lucy Speight and Ruby Shaw; a close friend Rev. John Watkins and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
