Hattie B. Thomas was born to Lurton and Anna Thomas on November 20, 1939 in Sumter County, Alabama. She confessed hope in Christ at a very early age. She was educated in Sumter County Public School System. She later moved to Bessemer, Alabama. Hattie B. Joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church (Mobile Jct.) under the leadership of Reverend L. M. Whigum. There she remained a member until death. Hattie B. married James Poole on May 3, 1961. To this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Soloman, Sulu, Willie, Lurton Jr., Frank, and James Thomas; a loving sister, Ellen Jackson, and a grandson, DaVonte R. Poole. Hattie B. was a "Die Hard Auburn Fan." On January 25, 2011 the Lord called her home. She will be missed but her memories will continue in the minds and hearts of her devoted husband of forty nine years. James Poole Sr.; daughters, Patricia (Roderick) Day, LaVonia (Charlie) Washington, Felicia (Tony) Baylor, and Cassandra (Walter) Smart; sons, James (Kecia) Poole Jr. and Carlos Poole all of Bessemer, Alabama; grandchildren, Roderick Day Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky, Charity (Walter) O'Neal, Latoyia Day, Alisha Poole, Deidra Hill, Walter Smart Jr., Kimberly Poole, Martez Poole, CaNeshia Smart, John Dailey, Alexicia Poole, and Alexis Washington all of Bessemer, Alabama; great grandchildren, Sharon O'Neal, Walter O'Neal Jr., and Alonte Hill; sister, Christine Duff of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; brother, Clifford (Irene) Thomas of Hempsted, New York; sisters-in-law, Hattie Thomas and Fannie Thomas of Bessemer, Alabama, Brenda (Lee) Williams; brothers-in-law, David Church of Birmingham, Alabama, Gabe Church and Tommy Scott of Bessemer, Alabama.
