The Obituary On March 11, 1936, Hattie Mae Davis was born to parents Ellen Roscoe Taylor and Columbus Taylor in Bessemer, Alabama. Hattie was the 9 th child of 11 children born of this union. At an early age, she embraced and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years. Hattie attended and graduated from Wenonah High School and was a proud alumna. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she was proud of the accomplishments of all her children. Hattie was an intelligent, strong, and passionate woman who was committed to living a good home and family life. Hattie met Richard Davis as a young woman and they married on July 15, 1954. They were fortunate to have 64 years of marriage together. They were blessed with 6 children from their union. After being a homemaker for several years, Hattie entered the workforce and became a Dietary Aide at UAB. She was devoted to her work for 15 years until her retirement. Hattie had a close-knit family with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and they often had family gatherings, fish fries, and cookouts in her family home in Brighton, Alabama. Hattie was a gardener and she enjoyed planting and taking care of her flowers. She took pride in her rose gardens and other fine flowers. Hattie also loved taking care of and decorating her home. She got most of her joy from being with her family. Hattie leaves behind her cherished memory to her: beloved husband, Richard; children, Lorenza Davis, Cynthia Davis, Ronald Davis, Vicki Burge (Tyree), and Reginald Davis; son, Donald (Cynthia) Davis, preceded her in death; grandchildren, Mario Davis, Tavares Davis, Ashley Burge, Keyona Dryden (Jon), Christian Burge, and Donald Davis, Jr. She was also blessed to see her great-grandchildren, Khory and Kortne McDavid, grow into young men; and a host of other relatives and friends.
