Gwendolyn Evelyn McCruter was born August 30, 1937, to the late Wilford Hall and late Hazel Watkins in Bessemer, AL. Albert and Hazel Watkins raised her to be a servant leader.
“Gwen” was called home on April 29, 2022 to be with her beautiful daughter Yolanda Renae Jones who proceeded her in death.
Gwen graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama and earned a BA Degree from Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama. She was a dedicated teacher who loved her students from teaching elementary and middle school students to teaching Sunday school at Porter Chapel CME Church where she served faithfully.
She was very active member of several community organizations and social clubs. Some of her hobbies included card games, cooking and making Blues CDs for family members such as her sister Jacqueline C. Long of Olympia, WA.
Gwen had a host of friends that she loved dearly to the end whom she was always willing to help and go that extra mile. She will be missed dearly – that sense of humor, her laughter and the great company anyone experienced being around her.
She was preceded in death: Wilford Hall; Geraldine Hall Dudley and a host of family members. She leaves to rejoice in her birth eternity: a loving sister, Jacqueline C. Long, Olympia, WA and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.
