A beautiful flower blossomed on March 16, 1942. Being born to Mary Golson and nurtured by Govan and Veola Averhart,Sr. Gwendolyn graced the world with her contagious smile and beautiful personality, that would touch so many lives to come. Gwendolyn enjoyed her childhood along with her brother Govan (Era) Averhart Jr., who would often time call her "Lil Bit". Gwendolyn was educated in the Brighton School System and later continued her studies at Knoxville College. She was a outstanding employee with BellSouth where she retired after 30 + years of service. Later in life, Gwendolyn was blessed with three special jewels: Kesia (Leo) Dailey, JaWanda (Eddie) Jackson and Robert (Deretia) Averhart. They were the joy and highlight of her life. She enjoyed being a mother to her children and there was absolutely nothing she wouldn't do for them. And then came the grand-sugars; D'Angelo Webb, Jeremiah Jackson, JeNiah Jackson, Madison Averhart, Dakota Averhart, Eddie Jackson Jr., Nicole Dailey and Nicholas Dailey. Oh how she loved her grandbabies. She was a proud grandmother and they were her pride and joy. Again, there was absolutely nothing she wouldn't do for them either. Gwendolyn had a special unique way of always loving and encouraging each and every person she came in contact with. It was so easy to love Gwendolyn and as a result, she gained many friends, spiritual sons and daughters, god-children and special friends. She was so genuine and lovable and had such a humble spirit. She was known for her card ministry and she never missed a birthday nor holiday. Gwendolyn enjoyed life and devoted herself to living a life that was pleasing unto the Lord. Her conversation was always Jesus. She was a Bible Scholar and an awesome Teacher of the Gospel. Her motto was "Its not how long you live, but how well you live." Gwendolyn worked diligently as the secretary of House of Prayer Evangelistic Church, where she was affectionately known as "Mother Averhart". From the youngest to the eldest, everybody loved Mother Averhart. Mother Averhart received her glorified body on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 9:10am. She has received her crown of glory and is now rejoicing with the angels around God's throne, proclaiming her favorite scripture: "Bless the Lord, oh my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."
