Reverend Gregory McCarroll was born October 10th, 1961, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Sam and LoPasker McCarroll. Gregory was the seventh of eight children.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Canaan Baptist Church of Bessemer, Alabama.
Reverend Gregory McCarroll was educated in the Bessemer City Schools. He attended cosmetology school after high school and became one of the most talented hair stylists in Birmingham, Alabama. Gregory's slogan was "If your hair is not becoming to you then you should be coming to me!" He worked as a cosmetologist for over 20 years.
Gregory became a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor William H. Walker Sr. God called Gregory to ministry, and he preached his first sermon on March 20th, 2005. Gregory's health declined, but God oversaw the plan for his life.
Gregory moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Brighton under the leadership of Pastor Erwin W. Luster, where Gregory continued to preach the word of God and served as a faithful member. He was a prayer warrior at Oak Trace Care & Rehabilitation Center and a volunteer Chaplain at UAB West.
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Reverend Gregory McCarroll was called home to be with the Lord. Gregory was preceded in death by both parents and three siblings.
Gregory leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, O'Shelia McCarroll; three children, Jessica (Antwon) Miller, Jasmine (Joshua) Williams, and Gregory McCarroll; three sisters, Olivia (the late James) Richardson, Catherine (the late Carl) McCullough Covington, Frances (the late Abraham) Mingo; a brother, Othello (Nakia) McCarroll; two grandchildren, Joshua Williams Jr. and Alayna Miller; a loving mother-in-law, Maxine (Robert) Batise, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends.
Don't grieve for me, for now I am free. I'm following the path God chosen for me. I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work, or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I've now found peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, look for the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen your pain with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peaceto thee, God wanted me NOW - He has set me free.
