Eula James

Sister Eula Mae James was born on March 12, 1924 to the late Prevella Sheppard-Dawson and Asbury Chappel. She was reared in Autauga County with her mother and Mid Dawson and later relocated to Bessemer, Alabama. Sister Eula met and married the love of her life, Leonard James and they were happily married for sixty-two years. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mallard Chapel A.M.E. Church in Autauga County and later joined Allen Temple A.M.E. Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. C.D. Hayden. She has been a faithful and active member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church since 1941 where she served as a member of the choir for over 60 years and on Steward Board #1 and Steward Board #2. Her participation was valued on The Just-Us Board and in Sunday Church School. Sister Eula worked in the Bessemer School System diligently for over 20 years and enjoyed attending social events during her leisure time. She will be fondly remembered as a dedicated wife, sister, aunt, cousin, church member, educator and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard James. She leaves to cherish her memory: one cousin and care giver Ollie (Michael) Fox; one brother Rev. Tommy (Loretha) Chappell; two sisters Mary Bell and Naomi Childress; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
