Earnest Samuels

Earnest E. Samuels affectionately called “Sammie” was born December 6, 1942, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Earnest Earl Hayes Samuels and Polly Samuels. Earnest was the oldest of his only sister, Barbara Green of Palmdale, California.
Mr. Sam confessed faith in Jesus Christ at First Baptist Church of Hueytown, Alabama.
Later, he united in Holy Matrimony to his beautiful wife, Delois for more than 20 plus years. In the year 2000, he joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church under Pastor William H. Walker.
Mr. Sam was educated in the Jefferson County School System and was a proud “Wenonah Dragon Graduate” Class of 1960. After graduation, Mr. Sam started working as a custodian at West End Hospital before it became Princeton Hospital.
At the age of 19, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Sam was honorably discharged after becoming wounded. After Mr. Sam became wounded in the Vietnam War, he received the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and one of the highest medals of honors, The Purple Heart Medal of Honor. Even though Mr. Sam was bed-ridden for many years, he never complained and always kept a smile on his face and continued encouraging others.
He was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed watching and supporting the “Tide”.
Mr. Sam was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. On February 23, 2022, Mr. Sam’s cycle of life came to a peaceful eternal rest.
Memories will be cherished by: his loving and devoted wife, Delois Y. Samuels; daughters, Stacy Walton, Renay (Ceasar) Bowers, Lisa Young and Nicole (David) McCoy; grandchildren, Callie Averhart, Calvin Young, Tiffany Warren, Ceasar (Amanda) Bowers, Caldarius Young, Cecily Bowers, Me’Lajeh and Messiah and Tiera Warren; great grandchildren, Me’Lajah Bowers, Messiah Bowers, Kaylor Averhart, Keleigh Banks, Talicia Myers, TaKayviona Myers, TraNejha Bowers and Ta’Kayla Bowers; sister, Barbara Green; sister-in-law, Linda Ashford; five brothers-in-law, Willie James (Carmel) Wheeler, Louis, Jr. (Leslie) Young, Otis Lee Young, John Wilson and Joe, Jr. (Rachel) Seals; nephew, David Green and a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
