Dennis Marvin McGruder, Jr. was born March 3, 1957 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late Reverend & Mrs. Dennis M. McGruder, Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Old Jonesboro under the leadership of the late Reverend W.C. Ward in 1964. He was a 1975 graduate of Hueytown High School. He attended Bessemer Technical College and graduated in Offset Printing. He also attended Nursing School in Buffalo, New York. He worked faithfully at the Salvation Army until his health failed in August 2010. God rescued him from long suffering on February 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Sanchez Allen, and his brother, Samuuel Earl McGruder. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving wife, Sis. Debra McGruder; two sons, Damon Houser of Birmingham and Quincey Long of Huntsville,AL; very loving and devoted mother, Sis. Vera Riddle; loving stepfather, Deacon Willie Riddle; three sisters, Patricia (David) Summerville, Laura Eaton, Denise (Marion) Hall all of Bessemer, Alabama; one brother, Henry McGruder of Bessemer, Alabama; three aunts, Ollie Ross of Brroklyn, New York, Willie Ruth Snipes of Danville, Virginia, Lorraine (Joseph) Gaines of Bessemer, Alabama; father-in-law, Floyd (Gertrude) Beavers, Sr.; two brother-in-laws, Orlando (Lesa) Beavers, Floyd (Elenor) Beavers; one sister-in-law, Edith McGruder; two special friends, Joe Shephard and Tracey Chaney; very special and devoted caregiver, Mrs. Hattie Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
