Delores White, affectionately known as "Mrs. Butch", was the eldest daughter of Mrs. Narvie Lee Turner and the late Timothy Hood, born on December 12, 1942 in Bessemer, Alabama. Delores attended St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church and Greater St. Paul AME Church. In 1984, she was received into the Catholic faith and was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church until her death. Delores loved her catholic faith and devoted countless hours working in many areas of the church. Her ministries included but not limited to: Usher Board, Pastoral Council, Family Life Committee, Bereavement Committee, Treasurer of St. Francis of Assisi Alumni and Cook for St. Francis of Assisi School and Friary Priests. Delores was an alumna of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, Paul Lawrence Dunbar Middle School and was in the first graduating class of Jackson Solomon Abrams High School (Class of 1961). Delores was married at an early age to John Henry Fluker and to that union, two daughters were born. She later married Haywood Lee White and to that union one son was born. God gave Delores a wonderful gift for cooking and she utilized that talent in various areas of her life. She was employed at the Parliament House (which later became the Hyatt House), Downtown Club, St. Francis of Assisi School and Friary and Cracker Barrel in Bessemer, Alabama. Delores was a valued employee by all of her employers and received numerous awards and accolades from each of them. Delores fed a multitude of students at St. Francis of Assisi School, her church members, family and friends. She took the time to make sure every meal was as good as the next one. Everyday was a holiday dinner when Delores was cooking. Delores was called upon to cook for parties, weddings and dances. She extended her kitchen to the families and children in the neighborhood and anyone who needed her cooking talents. If you have any doubt, ask her family, grandchildren and her church members.
