RACE STARTED
Debra Ann Collins Stevens, most fondly known as Deb, started her race on January 31, 1960. She was born to the late Eugene Collins, Sr. and Jennie Lee Collins in Fairfield, Alabama.
RACE IN PROGRESS
Deb accepted Jesus Christ at an early age as a member of New Hope Baptist Church. After marriage, she joined Zion Hill Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and an Usher. She later served as the Head Usher under the leadership of Reverend Emanuel Foster.
Deb graduated from Jess Lanier High School in 1978. She was the first black Head Cheerleader and the girlfriend to her football star, Cedric Stevens (Ced). Later, Deb married the love of her life, Ced and they were blessed with a son, Cedric Stevens, Jr. (CJ). As a result of this union, Deb became Mama Deb and added a host of Stevens' babies to her family.
Deb joyfully worked as a Registered Nurse until her health declined. Being a Registered Nurse was a fitting occupation because Deb was kind, loving, dependable, humorous, supportive, hardworking and most of all genuine. Also, Deb volunteered as a Guidance Counselor and supported the Special Olympics as often as she could. Instead of meeting strangers, Deb met friends, and everybody loved her.
Deb was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Collins, Sr.; her brothers, Bobby Lee Collins, and Eugene Collins, Jr.; her sister, Betty Collins Jones; her niece, Juanita Buckhana and her nephew, Brandon Collins.
Deb leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Cedric Stevens, Sr.; son, Cedric Stevens, Jr.; mother, Jennie Lee Collins; sisters, Rosie Marshall, Sharon (Roderick) Jones and Crystal Collins; brother, Anthony Collins; sisters-in-law, Carla Dawson, Queen Baker, Lenora Stevens, Vernetta Stevens, and Rhonda Stevens and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
RACE WON
On October 13, 2024, during the morning hours, Deb crossed the finish line, landing in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant. Put on your robe in glory and continue praising the Lord.
