Dan E. Hollis, Sr. was born on Monday September 2, 1940, to the late Tucker Hollis, Jr. and Mary Pearl Ivory Hollis. He departed his earthly home on Monday, February 11, 2025, at 12:15 a.m.
He graduated from Brighton High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Lois Moore. They later entered a covenant marriage before God filled with love, compassion, devotion and faith.
He was employed by several companies before being employed by Donaldson Correction Facility, which he retired after 18 ½ years of service.
He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Brighton, Alabama. He later united with Spring Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, McCalla, Alabama. Eventually, he joined his wife Lois Hollis at McCalla Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, McCalla, Alabama.
He was a loyal, faithful and devoted servant for the Lord. He served in many capacities, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Praise Team Leader and The McCalla Community Male Chorus.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Tucker Hollis, Sr., and Mary Pearl Ivory Hollis; son, Larry Jones of Bessemer, AL; sisters, Beatrice Curry, Barbara Robson and Dorothy Brewster, all of Oakland, CA; brother, Walter Dennis Hollis of Tacoma, WA.
Dan is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lois Hollis of McCalla, AL; sons, Sterling J. Moore of Bessemer, AL, Reginald Moore of California and Dan E. Hollis, Jr., McCalla, AL; daughter, Angela Hollis (Darren) Williams of Dolomite, AL; grandchildren, Eric Jones, Larry Jones, Jr., Janice Jones, Brandon Jones, Aleisha DeRamus, Quinel DeRamus, Roleisha DeRamus, Reginald J. Moore, Jr., Daneka Farrior, Darrius Hollis, Ahzia Hollis and DeJuan Hollis; brothers, Tucker, Jr. (Kay E.) Hollis of Tuscaloosa, AL and Benjamin Hollis of Birmingham, AL; a special sister-inlove, Minister Earnestene Rice Gaines; two special nieces, Tanya Hollis (Tommy) Johnson of Huntsville, AL and Tonya Hollis (Felix) Feagins of Moody, AL; God daughter, Yamesha (Robert) King of McCalla, AL and a host of great grands, nieces, great nieces,nephews, great nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
