Corine Joy Cowens

Corine Joy Cowens was born on March 4, 1947, in Bessemer, Alabama, the beloved daughter of Lena May Williams.

She attended elementary school at Old Jonesboro Negro School.

Early in life professed her love for God, receiving baptism under the guidance of Reverend Charles E. Henry at age 11 in 1957, from Friendship Baptist Church in Uniontown, Alabama.

On September 17, 1992, Corine entered into Holy matrimony with Lonester Cowens, Sr. Their union was blessed with love and companionship until July 14, 2024, when Corine peacefully passed into eternity. She was known for her profound love, care, and compassion towards all who knew her. Corine cherished moments of joy with family and friends, especially enjoying cooking and the thrill of casinos, a hobby she pursued even through a casino app on her telephone.

Corine leaves behind a legacy of love cherished by her devoted husband, Lonester Cowens, Sr.; her loving child, Desi Morris (Barbara Fleming); her stepchildren, Heidi, Lastar, Bernard, Jamil, and Lonester, Jr. She was a proud grandmother to Christopher Morris, Nigeria Whitely, London Whitely, and a great grandson, Zaire Whitely. Additionally, Corine is survived by numerous relatives, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends who will deeply miss her.
