Christopher Whitely

Christopher A. Whitely was born on June 7, 1963, to the late Mrs. Lillian Whitely Whitt and Mr. Britt Houser, Sr. in Selma, Alabama.

He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Morning Star Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama under the leadership of Reverend Isaac Acoff. After relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, he joined Bethel Baptist Church under pastoral leadership of Reverend William H. Greason.

Chris attended Selma High School. Later, he was employed with U.S. Steel Railroad Company and retired in 2012.

On Monday, July 1, 2024, Chris departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yolanda " Faye" Whitely.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Tonya, B. Whitely; daughter, Kristin L. Whitely; son, Donavon Winters; three sisters, Joyce Whitely, Marie (Arthur) Brown and Carolyn (James) Ford; one brother, Reginald Houser; two grandsons, Donovan and Roman Williamson; special niece and nephew, Javeres Whitely and Jameka Merritt; special great nieces and nephew, Camryn, Daisen and Jace; sisters-in-law, Tolanda (James) Adams and Sonya Beal; special aunts, Annie Walker, Susie Whitely, Roxie Walker, and Jeanie Ward; a host of other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, co-workers, and friends.
