Charles Earl Thompson, affectionately known as “Rev”, was born in Beaumont, Texas on June 20, 1946 to the late Alfred Thompson, Sr. and Bernice Wilson Thompson. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his sister, Ella “Sissy” Harden, and brothers Leon Thompson, Wilson Roy Thompson, Sr., Carl Thompson, Burnett “Pop” Thompson, and Donald Ray Thompson. He departed his earthly home Saturday, May 16, 2020. Charles graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School in 1963 and from Bay Ridge Christian College in 1969 where he earned his Bachelor of Theology. Charles met his wife JoAnn at Bay Ridge and they married on September 14, 1969.He worked 34 years at U.S. Steel, retiring in 2009. He also pastored Clanton Church of God in Clanton, Alabama and Third Street Church of God in Greensboro, Alabama. In his youth Charles was an avid tennis and baseball player. In his later years, he enjoyed volunteering at church, watching NFL football, western movies, and grilling for family dinners. Charles became a member of Faith Chapel Christian Center in 1999. He faithfully and lovingly served in various ministries. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife who loves him dearly, JoAnn S. Thompson; four daughters, Chantel White, Kristen (Charles) Greene, Kimberly Thompson, and Kelli (Thomas) Thompson Bell; nine grandchildren, Channing, Katherine, Jordan, Charles III, Christian, Chandler, Katelyn, Max, and Stephen; three siblings, Beverly S. Kelly, Robbie Plaines, and Alfred Thompson, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends.
