Charles Brown

Charles G. Brown, Jr. was born October 14,1950, in West Blockton, Alabama. He was the third child of Charles G. Brown, Sr. and Ella Mae Smith Brand.

At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at Fifth Avenue Bethel Baptist Church of Bessemer, Alabama under Reverend C. Howard Nevitt.

He was a graduate in the Class of 1969 from Abrams High School.

He later met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Rose Woods. They were married, September 2, 1976. Later, he joined his wife at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. John Henry Williams.

Charles was employed at US Pipe and Foundry in Bessemer, Alabama for many years. He was a faithful employee who could always be counted on to perform his duties diligently and reliably.

On February 24, 1990, Charles and Dorothy welcomed their only child, a daughter, Haley Noelle Brown.

Charles was a man of few words, very quiet to all that knew him; but when Haley was born, he showed more excitement and emotions than ever before, thrilled for this amazing birth. He loved and cherished his wife, daughter, and family throughout his life until his death.

Charles was a long-time member of the Outcast Motorcycle Club in Bessemer until his death. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his club and he made many wonderful friends along the way, many of whom stayed in touch with him throughout his illness.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ella Mae (Smith) Brand and a sister, Myra Jean Brown.

Charles is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Brown; daughter, Haley Brown; brother, Lee Brown; two sisters, Marie "Cookie" Bennett and Karima Hassan-Bynum; a host of cherished relatives and friends.
