Carrie Mae Rice affectionately know as “ Mae Mae ” was born to the late Clinton Rice and Lois Burns in Mitchell, GA. Her brother, Clinton, sister, Vivian, and son, Darrell preceded her in death.Ms. Rice was a product of the Fairfield City School System. She retired from The Lloyd Noland Foundation after more than 40 years of service. Ms. Rice was always a hard worker and always demonstrated a high degree of discipline and excellence in her work and in her everyday life. During Ms. Rice’s 40 years at Lloyd Noland, she never took a sick day.
Ms. Rice joined The Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in 1958 under the direction of the late Rev. Francis Vaughn. She was a dedicated and faithful member. She was a member of the Senior Choir, and her robe was always immaculate as she would lean on the green of her signature song “Pray on My Child, I’ve Got a Home on High”. She was also instrumental in organizing the Choir Union, which included Pleasant Grove, Antioch and Mt. Pilgrim. If the church members did not have transportation, she would pick them up and carry them back home.
Ms. Rice taught the Streeter Class for many years, she was Chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry, President of the Pastor’s Aide, and she organized the Church’s first Health Fair. She was Youth Leader and loved working with our youth. She was a firm disciplinarian and had no problems disciplining the children.
Ms. Rice never stopped working. She worked the Summer Food Program during the summer months serving the Summer Enrichment Children. She also cleaned the school facilities while working on a senior citizen program through JCCEO. Ms. Rice loved the children in the daycare and school and the children loved her. Everyone loved Ms. Rice’s signature dish, her peach cobbler.
Ms. Rice transitioned from this life on Sunday, March 8, 2020.
Ms. Rice will never leave our hearts or minds. She will be not only be remembered but cherished for the person she was. She adored and was adored by her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Joyce A. Johnson (Mackie) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Carolyn Williams of Vallejo, CA; son, Michael Williams (Cheryl) of Hanson, MA; grandchildren, Dorothy Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, Anthony Johnson of Vallejo, CA, Andre Johnson (Jessica) of Pleasant Hill, CA, Cima Michelle Joshua of Rockhill, SC, Michael Williams (Bridgette) of Snellville GA, Erica McNeel of Vallejo, CA, Marques Williams (Ana) of Roslindale, MA; great grandchildren, Shawn, Aisha, Mi’Kela, Sydnee, Ava, and Donovan; and great-great grandchild, Jazmine, and a host of other family and friends.
