Carl Edward Anderson was born July 1, 1972 in Birmingham, AL to Frank Anderson, Sr. and the late Shirley Anderson. He was extremely blessed to have the beloved late Abrenda Anderson who he called his mom to share in his care, love, nurturing and parenting with his father. Carl confessed Christ at a young age and was a member of Faith Church under the leadership of Pastor Aubrey Miller. At Faith Church, Carl was ordained as an Elder and served as Head of the Men's Ministry, member of the Audiovisual Team and was currently serving as an advisor on the Security Team. Carl was a product of the Birmingham School System and graduated from Jackson Olin High School in 1990. On football scholarships, Carl attended and played football at Alabama A&M University and NC State where he endured an unexpected football injury which led him back to Birmingham, Alabama where he attended Bessemer Technical College. In the summer of 1998, Carl met the love of his life Viveca Michelle Ross. On July 23, 1999, Carl and Viveca were united in holy matrimony. To this union two wonderful sons were conceived, Carl Jr (CJ) and Carson Ross. Carl enjoyed and cherished every moment he had with his family. Lieutenant Carl E. Anderson had 20 years of service with the Bessemer Police Department. During these years he served as the Bessemer City Jail Supervisor/Administrator, DEA Task Force Agent, Vice and Narcotics/Special Response Team, and School Resource Officer. He recently took the test to fulfill a lifelong dream of Captain and results are still pending. The men and women in blue who served with Lt. Anderson will never forget how committed he was to their safety and well-being. He exemplified the model teacher, mentor, and leader and his commitment and warming smile will be truly missed. Lt. Carl Anderson gave his heart, soul and seemingly limitless amount of time to the Bessemer Police Department, but nothing was more important to him than his family, friends, and loved ones. Carl was a true family man. He was known for bringing people together. You could always count of him for the most delicious fried fish, memorable gatherings (where he loved to DJ), organizing trips, and offering endearing words of encouragement in times of need. The hearts he touched with his smile are hurting right now, but can all find peace in remembering that Lt. Anderson was a man who truly cared about those he came in contact with. There was no limit to his generosity or willingness to help others. He will be forever loved and his memories will be cherished by: his loving and devoted wife, Viveca Ross Anderson; two sons, Carl Edward Anderson, Jr. "CJ" and Carson Ross Anderson; daughters Jacqueline "Jakki", Shaundria and Brittany Hatter, BriShaun Valree; father, Frank Anderson, Sr. (Cynthia); grandmother, Ms. Annie Pearl Milton; brothers, Frank (Katara) Anderson, Jr., Korey (Kesi) Anderson and Horace Rembert, Jr.; sisters Tonja (Ron) Kennedy, Ann Murphy and Deirdre Rembert; his other mother Linda (Andre) Adridge; a loving mother-in-law, Debra Ross; two brothers-in-law, Darron (Kristin) Ross and Erik Ross; three grandchildren and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
