Calvin Tabb Jr. was born on April 5, 1919 in Selma, Alabama the oldest of three brothers of Calvin Tabb Sr. and Ollie Tabb who all preceded him in death. Calvin attended the highest grade level at Wenonah, at the time. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and baptized at an early age. As a young man, Calvin worked for T.C.I Mines until he was drafted into the United States Navy where he served faithfully in WWII. Calvin received the following decoration and citation: (Awards) After an honorable discharged from the Navy in 1945; Calvin went back to T.C.I Mines which later became U.S. Steel. Forty years later, he retired from U.S. Steel. Calvin was a very dedicate and loving man in the community. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, attending to his animals, and electronics. He was recognized as the first CB operator in Roosevelt City and his CB name was "Roosevelt City Kid." He also built his own satellite dish in his backyard. In addition, Calvin was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was a friend to everyone he met. At an early age, he was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church. Later in his adult life, he united with Roosevelt City Church of Christ. Calvin served as a song leader and a member of the nursing home ministry. He also was active in the television ministry and senior ministry. In 1940, he was united in marriage to the late Johnnie Mae Allen and from that union a daughter, Odessa (James) Witt of Birmingham, Alabama and a son Ernest (Tuwanda) Tabb of Jacksonville, Florida was born. In 1961, he was united in marriage to the late Helen Porter from that union three sons were born; Kenneth (Cheryl) Tabb, Kelvin (Tracy) Tabb of Birmingham, Alabama, and Karl (Jacqueline) Tabb of Hueytown, Alabama. He also leaves ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He spirit left his earthly home on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 4:33 p.m. Precious memories of his life shall be cherished forever.
