Brenda Mae Jones Cox was born July 18, 1954 in Bessemer, Alabama to Lillie Mae Jones. She confessed hope in Jesus Christ at an early age. With her family she united with Ebenezer Baptist Church of Bessemer under the leadership of Reverend Leon Glover.
She received her education through the Bessemer City School system, graduating from Jackson S. Abrams High School in 1972 and later attending Lawson State Community College. She met and married David Lee Cox on August 29, 1975 and to this union four daughters were born.
Throughout her life, Brenda enjoyed working in the funeral business. She was a funeral director and secretary for many years. Her career started at Howard Johnson Memorial Funeral Home and later working for Scott-McPherson Funeral Home. Ultimately, Brenda worked at Chambers Funeral Home until her retirement to become a stay at home mom. She enjoyed cooking, grilling and socializing with her friends better known as the Golden Girls Social and Savings Club. Brenda was an active grandmother and homemaker until her health began to fail.
On August 7, 2019 at 10:19 A.M. Brenda gave her final Testimony unto the Lord and relinquished her earthly body. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Mae Johonson and Elijah Johnson.
Those left to cherish her memories: husband of 43 years, David Cox; daughters, Kelsey (Duane) Murray, Angela Cox, Sherrie Cox, Patrice (Brian) Reese and Ashley Cox; grandchildren, Devon, Jayln, Duane, Jr., Kierstyn, Aubrie and Brian, Jr.; brother, James (Sandra) Stephens, Jr.; sister, Carolyn (Bennard) Smith; sisters-in-law, Bernice Cox, Ophelia (Charles) Wilson and Juanita Cox; brother-in-law, Othella Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
