Reflections of Life Our beloved brother, Bobby Lee Jackson was born November 23, 1942 to the late Mr. Johnny Edd Jackson and Mrs. Annie Pearl Jones. Our beloved brother accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Carrollton, Alabama. He was educated in the Pickens County School System, attending Carrollton Junior High School and Pickens County Training School both in Carrollton, Alabama. He was an active participant and enjoyed playing basketball, winning local tournaments and a highlight was winning the State Basketball Championship in 1959-1960. He continued his education by attending several schools of higher education. He retired from the United States Army after serving about 30 years of active duty and from the United States Postal Service. He was actively involved in his community and enjoyed teaching ROTC to the Cadets at Ball State University, Muncie, MD, IND. And Ft. Benning, GA. A Vietnam Veteran who won two Purple Hearts. He retired as a Master Sergeant E8 reporting directly to the Colonel, the highest position you can receive as an enlisted soldier. Our beloved brother played in the movie Glory alongside Denzel Washington. He was an active participant in the ELKS since 1989 – Shades Valley Lodge #884, Bessemer, Alabama. His service was a Financial Seceretary, Director of Education/ Oratorical contest, James E. Kelly Council. He was Brother Larry Phillips right hand man. He was Recording Secretary at The State Association and a Grand Lodge Member (highest honor). Preceding him in death: wife, Ida B. Wilder Jackson of 47 years and Mr. James Gilmore, who was more of a father than a step father to all of us. God reached down from Heaven on Thursday, May 5 and received him home. God granted his last request and took him immediately. Our family is saddened by his passing but angels in Heaven rejoiced. Our beloved brother leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Lawanda Michelle Jackson; sons, Bobby L. Jackson, Jr. and Jalen Jackson all of Trussville, AL; siblings, Johnny Jackson, Tuscaloosa, AL, Ferman Jackson, Carrollton, AL, Shirley (Robert) Jackson Hood, Tuscaloosa, AL, Joe (Ingrid) Jackson, Chattanooga, TN, Lorenza Jackson, Huntsville, AL, Sharon Gilmore Windham, Tuscaloosa, AL and Winston Gilmore, Sr., Marietta, GA; godson, Roderick (Natalie) Hood, Tuscaloosa, AL and a loving and special caregiver, Bridgette Daniels. A devoted father to his children and other family members; he will be truly missed by his family, friends and loved ones.
