Betty Jean Heflin Hendrix

Betty Jean Showers was born on May 25,1942, at Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Angelo and Ivy Portis Showers.

As an infant Betty was christened at Immaculata Catholic Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

She received her early childhood education at Immaculata Elementary School and Finley Avenue. Later, she obtained her high school diploma from A.H. Parker High School, where she was a member of the marching band. She furthered her education at Booker T. Washington Business College.

Betty married Fred Heflin, Sr., and to this union three children were born. Rafael Navarro Heflin, Frederick Naylor Heflin, Jr. and Pamela Sharee Heflin. After the dissolution of this union, Betty later married Clarence Hendrix in May 1984.

To deepen her faith, Betty became a member of the New Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she was an active member for many years.

She enjoyed a very rewarding career at the Visiting Nursing Association in Birmingham, Alabama, for more than 20 years until her retirement. She was a very caring and devoted individual who attended to her patients' needs.

Betty demonstrated unwavering dedication to her loved ones. She possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rafael Heflin, and her husband, Clarence Hendrix. God called Betty to eternal rest on June 29, 2024.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her beloved son, Frederick (Eunice) Heflin; daughter, Pamela (Tony) Cain; her grandchildren, Lavares (Scarlett) Radford, Piffany Heflin, Briana Heflin, Jada Cain and Nicholas Heflin; her furry grandson, Pierre Cain; sisters, Barbara Nathan and Angelin Price; nephews, Antonio Rutledge and Ronald Price and a host of great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
