My dad, Anthony Julius Young, was the epitome of what a father and man should be in life. He was a man of creative intelligence, with a knack of solving the most complicated issues, domestic and social, in ways that would leave today’s leaders utterly frustrated. He carried an air of authority that would be fit for only a king of kings. His word was law, not because of actual litigation, but because lies and deceit were forever absent to fall from his voice. You could trust in his judgment and his intentions better than your local church leader. He was calm and relaxed in his posture, yet powerful and strong in his resolve. In simple words, my dad was "The Man".
He kept a peculiar sense of humor, which comprised of rude honesty, hilariously bad impressions, and quick, quiet little jabs. Y’all it took me 20 years to realize my daddy could crack. It was really a privilege to be his child, a privilege that was shared with my many siblings. The love and care that he showed to all of us is nothing short of a blessing. But the thing that amazed me the most about my father is how many people actually knew and respected him.
