Annie Eubanks

"MuDear..." Annie Grace Eubanks was born May 1, 1928 to proud parents Luke and Alice Gilbert in Westfield, Alabama. She was the third child of four children. She accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Roosevelt City, where she was a faithful lifetime member. She served as a member of the church choir & mission board. Annie was a graduate of Brighton High School. She united in matrimony with Nathaniel Eubanks, Sr. in 1948. Early in her work career, she held several positions as a domestic care provider. Knowing that education is the key to advancing oneself, Annie Grace decided to pursue a career in nursing. Annie attended Dunbar Vocational School Nursing Class and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. This opened the door to a career with the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital System. Annie was among the first African-American women who completed a training course at UAB to become a Certified Surgical Technician and served 25 years before retiring to attend to her ailing mother. She and her siblings provided loving, round-the-clock care for her until her mother's death. Annie received a Certificate of Meritorious Achievement from the Association of Operating Room Technicians, Inc. which allowed her to have a direct involvement in determining national standards for certification qualifications. She was also a member of the United States Civil Defense Corps - Medical Service Birmingham, Jefferson County. She received countless other awards and recognitions, including a Citizen Award for dedication as a civic worker in the Brownville and Roosevelt Neighborhood Association. She loved her Roosevelt City Neighborhood and was a stranger to few who traveled Woodward Ave. Annie Grace was a loving person and cared deeply for others. She always greeted you with her beautiful smile, a genuine hug or a warm hello. She was a beacon of kindness and her wisdom was treasured by both family and friends alike. Family was her highest priority and she took great joy in caring for them. She created a legacy through her passion for education. Her pursuits inspired her children to always strive for excellence in education; as a result, all her children have college degrees and they continue to impart her legacy in succeeding generations. She also imparted her love of her Savior and raised her family in respect and reverence of the Lord. When not attending her family, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, travelling, gardening, baking and spending time outdoors. The Bible was her favorite book. It was the first book she read in the morning and the last she read at night! She also obtained one of the best decorative bell collections east of the Mississippi! Annie Grace entered into Heaven's eternal peace on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at her home in Roosevelt City, Alabama (Birmingham). She joins her mother, father, brother Robert Gilbert, sisters Sarah Gochett & China Esther Gilbert and son Lowell Eubanks. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Nathaniel Eubanks, Jr. (Lenda), Norman Eubanks; daughters Annie Ruth Eubanks, Alice Walker (Kenneth), Regina Cotton (Herbert); sister-in-law Willie Mae Gilbert; special adopted daughters Cynthia Gray ( JB) and Jocelyn Cavanaugh (Larry); her special "Guhl" Myra Wright; grandsons Darrin McClure, Dajuan Eubanks (Amy), Joel Eubanks (Eldrisha), Jamian Eubanks (Aledra), Tremayne Eubanks, Trashard Eubanks, Rafael Cotton; granddaughters Niya Wyche (Ross), Tikia Carr, Candace Cotton, April Matthews (Mark), Tori Eubanks, Joy Eubanks; 14 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great- Grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.
